Sometimes the best material for a new project is something that already has a story.

Custom steel bench with snowboards

A customer came to us with an idea for a bench using old snowboards that weren't good for much else. He had already built a wooden version, but between the kids and the sun, it didn't hold up. This time, he wanted something stronger—but still comfortable enough to actually sit on.

The goal wasn't just to build a steel frame. It was to build a bench that felt right. A square bench might be strong, but it's not necessarily comfortable.

What We Did

  • Built the frame from 1½-inch and 1¼-inch square tubing

  • Designed the frame to give the seat and back the right sitting angles

  • Left room for the snowboards to be attached with carriage bolts

  • The final step will be painting the steel and permanently securing the boards

It's a good example of what we like about custom fabrication: take something old, give it a new purpose, and build the structure around what the customer actually wants.
