One Trellis, Two Purposes

Sometimes the most useful designs can also become art. This client wanted a wall-mounted trellis that could hold four-inch terra-cotta pots while bringing an organic shape to the space.
Built Around the Vision
For this project we:
Built the tree from one-inch
and three-quarter-inch solid round stock
Heated the steel in the forge and shaped it by hand over the anvil
Hammered the trunk and individual branches to create an organic, natural appearance
Formed a steel ring at the end of each branch to hold a four-inch terra-cotta pot
Designed the finished piece to mount securely to the exterior wall
FROM STEEL TO LIVING ART
What we like about projects like this is the chance to use different tools and traditional metalworking techniques to create something both useful and artistic. Once the pots were added and filled with ferns, the steel tree transformed a blank wall into a living piece of garden art.
