Built for Stability and Longevity
Keeping equipment on level ground matters. In this case, a soft spot caused a serious crack in the foot of this log splitter, turning a small issue into a major structural failure.

Our first thought was to bend the damaged foot back into place and weld the crack. Once we got into the repair, we discovered the base was built from cast steel, making bending extremely difficult and unreliable for a long-term fix.
Choosing the Right Repair
Rather than forcing a repair that wouldn’t last, we made the call to do it right.
We:
Cut the damaged foot off completely
Fabricated a replacement using a 2-inch solid steel plate
Welded it in place with a couple dozen passes of 7018 electrode creating a stronger, more stable foundation

Back to Work
With the new base installed, the splitter is standing upright again, solid and secure. It’s ready to go back to work and cut a couple thousand more cords of wood.
